The horse paintings were made in the second half of 2010 and early 2011 in Rollinsford, NH.
I believe, as Picasso said, all art is abstract. Therefore I make no distinction in my work between "realistic" and "abstract".
I do observe a division between nature-- animals, plants, and landscape--and the work I have done on machines and the urban landscape. What is more important is finding the similarities in all the pieces, which I leave to the viewer
I had my first studio on the rooftop of a villa in Cuernavaca, Mexico. It was the summer of 1958 between my Junior and Senior years at the University. I knew then I wanted to be a painter. No doubt this feeling was enhanced by being in a country where an artist receives respect just walking down the street.
Currently my studio is in Rollinsford, New Hampshire and I look out my window at the Salmon Falls and the river with Maine on the opposite coast. The river isn't very wide. Recently I saw a frightened deer swim across it in no time.
